Not if they can't give game manager Jimmy any better defense than they gave Carr! Carr's problem wasn't with understanding the system (Carr learned 6 diff systems in his 9 years and never struggled with a single 1 of them), it was that Carr saw all the flaws and wanted to fix them at the line. Carr was audibling out of busted plays, and that has been confirmed by multiple offensive players who were on the field at the time, and that pissed Josh off so Josh started tanking to get rid of Carr. He couldn't have the world see ANOTHER QB who was smarter than him and could run his system better than him... when the "GOAT" did it, that was 1 thing, but when it started happening again, he got rid of Carr as fast as he could!!! Watch the plays he called for Stiddy in the last 2 games and comp them to the plays he called for Carr for most of the season... he was a completely different coach for Stiddy, because Stiddy hadn't learned 6 different systems in 9 years like Carr, this system was all that Stiddy knew and so Stiddy couldn't see all the flaws like Carr... and even with a fully obedient QB doing exactly what Josh says... they still lost the last 2 games! ... then even Stiddy ran like hell from McD and signed with a division rival! It doesn't matter who the QB is... until Mark Davis wakes up and gets rid of the Patriot hacks he brought in, the Raiders won't have another winning season!

It's a win/win deal but a lateral move performance wise; totally different QBs but net difference is not much. Biggest downgrade is potential injury without the upside of a real deep threat unless McDaniels let's him rip it to Adams? Not sure how effective that'll be but we'll see. Jimmy is just more affordable but with trading Waller not sure what the Raiders are doing.

He's 15 million a year cheaper, and the "cheaper" contract allows the Raiders the option to still draft a QB and let them sit until they are ready.

My impression is that a 49ers team of recent seasons can make almost any QB win games. So, I wouldn't give too much on Garoppolo's stats of winning a lot of games. I'm really not sure Garoppolo will make a huge difference with the Raiders. It can easily happen that it'll go down like Carr last season.

During Purdy's run the 49ers played against mid offenses and bottom 10 defenses. First time Purdy played a top 10 defense he became Mr. Irrelevant again even while Dak Prescott turned the ball over 2 times that game. 49ers won by 1 possession... Then 2 plays into playing another top 10 defense (Eagles) he was injured and then everyone else became injured. Jimmy is a baller and even though I've been a Niner for 33 years, I'll be a temporary Raider fan while he's out there and to be frank I cannot stand Kittle or Shanahan anymore so having another team to genuinely support will be very welcome.

They’re interchangeable with their contracts. Jimmy G with more availability in cap space and a system he’s familiar with=Derek Carr. Meaning another 5-8 win team without a top 5 pick to draft a top QB.

Don't look at win % rate...that's a lazy stat. Look into what he did to actually win those games. I think Jimmy is solid and around the same caliber as Carr. But he was gifted 2 really good situations to start his career. It's not a shock he won a lot

I'm a niner fan so I'm biased but he has the fastest processing mind we've had, I've only became a niner fan when Alex Smith came on so I can't speak of Young or Montana. Doctors say somehow his arm may be stronger after surgery, just excited for next season

@WestCoastWarrior purdy wasn't undrafted, but not far off yeah. He's alright, he's got great short accuracy, he's pretty solid in the middle of the field, but he lacks the arm strength and accuracy to put deep balls where they need

I think Purdy's sample size is too small but based on what we seen in 8 games, but he has a 107.0 passer rating on that span... regardless of which team you play for is incredible/elite, especially as an undrafted rookie. I don't know if Purdy will pan out but his play in that timespan was undeniably elite if you look at stats alone. Jimmy never had those stats which is why he's not as good as him

Jimmy doesn't get picked because he throws 5 yards only. He has completed 4 deep passes in 3 seasons and Purdy in his 1st start doubled the deep completions of Jimmy last year. Jimmy had 1 deep pass completed in 11 games, Mr Irrelevant had 2 deep pass TDs in 1st start vs Brady.

Does it really matter? Can Derek Carr become a Staint after being a Raider? That is the real question. Both QBs have happy feet. Both make bad decisions at critical times in a game. Both want to throw the ball rather than hand it off to a running back. Both throw the ball well enough when they have the time to do so. The teams they are going to have the players to make them good but not great. Neither teams have a proven head coach. That in itself cannot help either QB. That being said, where these teams finish in their conference will not improve. I do believe the potential is there for both. What they make of themselves is another story. I wish them the best to be the best they can be. Can they be? Time will tell or will it???
